My Jonas Experience
by Savanah Eve Stewart, age 13
On October 13, 2007 for my 11th birthday I received my first Jonas Brother CD. I had heard their song “Mandy” and I really liked it but I wasn’t familiar with any of their other songs. Once I listened to their CD I was hooked. I now consider myself one of their biggest fans. I have spent the last 3 years following their careers and music. My greatest wish this year has been to see them in concert.
On June 16, 2009 the Jonas Brother’s released their 4th CD called, “Lines, Vines, and Trying Times.” It is definitely my favorite CD so far. My favorite songs are “Fly with Me” and “Much Better.”
At the end of June my wish came true. My godmother, Aunt Laura signed up on their official fan site so that we could get tickets to the Jonas Brother concert that was coming to the Birmingham Civic Center. My god-sister Ashley and I were so excited and would have been thrilled just to go to the concert. We had no idea that when my Aunt Laura got our tickets that we would get to go to the sound check party before the concert and have 4th row seats. It was an amazing experience and I was thrilled to be so close to them. My only disappointment was I really wanted to ask them a question but there were about 150 people at the sound check party so it was impossible. My question to them would have been “What is your favorite song to perform on stage and why?” Maybe one day I will get the chance to ask them.
The Jonas Brother concert was on Sunday, August 16th, 2009. The opening acts for the concert were “Honor Society” and “The Wonder Girls.” Though I enjoyed their acts especially “Honor Society” I was crazy with anticipation for the Jonas Brother’s to perform. Finally, they came on stage and their performance was as unbelievable as I thought it would be. Nick Jonas is my favorite and I was even more impressed after he performed his song “A Little Bit Longer.” Nick wrote this song after he was diagnosed with diabetes. During the middle of the song Nick continued to playing the piano but spoke about his own journey with diabetes and what this songs means to him. He said that this song is for every broken heart, for every lost dream, for every single tear and that his fans are his inspiration. Honestly, I had tears in my eyes after he spoke. Nick is my inspiration and hero for the work he has accomplished. Since he was diagnosed he has developed the “Change for Children Foundation,” which tries to raise money for research and awareness of diabetes. This is close to my heart because my dad has diabetes.
The rest of the concert was pure fun and excitement. It had me, my god-sister Ashley, my mom and my godmother up and dancing. This was a once in a life time opportunity and I am so thrilled that I got to have this experience.
