The Tarantula Family

The Tarantula Family

A short story by Kel Lockhart, 10 years old, 4th grader in Auburn City Schools

On a hot, summer day, a mother tarantula was getting ready to find some lunch.  She left her nest.  One of her eggs flipped over and fell down the hill and landed by a small lake.  A bird picked up the egg and was taking it to her nest, but she dropped it in the grass beside an ant hill.  The egg cracked and the baby tarantula came out.

All of the ants started to come out of the hill toward the baby tarantula.  The baby tarantula spit some poison at the ants and they went back to their ant hill..  She kept going to find where the trail would lead her and she went toward a huge falcon.

The falcon said “what are you doing here?”  The baby tarantula didn’t speak.  The falcon flew away and the baby tarantula kept going on the trail.  She followed the trail and it led to the Grand Canyon.  She was about to turn around when the wind pushed her away.  She fell 1,000 feet down, all the way to the bottom of the canyon.  A huge vulture picked up the baby tarantula and kept flying to her nest..  The vulture said “what is your name?”  The tarantula didn’t answer the vulture because she was too shy.  The baby tarantula stayed with the vulture and they became friends.  After a few months, they roamed the land together searching for the tarantula’s mom.  They traveled all through the land until one day, they found her mother.  The baby tarantula ran to her mother, hugged her and said “I missed you.”  -  THE END
