Camp Out On Ice

.image On Saturday, December 12th, I went to the Columbus Civic Center to watch the Columbus Cottonmouths play against the Knoxville Ice Bears.  This was my first hockey game.  The game was very exciting.  At the end, the game was tied at 3.  It went into overtime and the Ice Bears won the game with a score of 4-3.  The game lasted about 2 hours.

This game night was special because it was the “Campout on Ice Night” for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  After the game was over, all of the scouts set up their camping sites.  There were a lot of scouts camping out.  Some scouts slept in tents and others slept in the open air on sleeping bags.  I slept in a tent with my dad.  First, we put cardboard on the ice to keep our tent warm and dry.  Next, we set up the tent. My friend Aedan and his dad slept in the open air on sleeping bags.  They put plastic, cardboard, sleeping pads and a blanket under their sleeping bags.  They stayed warm too.

After all of the camping sites were set up, the Columbus Cottonmouth hockey players came out and signed autographs.  My dad bought a hockey puck and hockey stick for me.  The players signed my hockey stick.  Some other scouts were getting their t-shirts signed.  I liked meeting the players.  They were really nice.  We went to sleep at about midnight when the arena lights went off.  Our tent stayed warm.  It was so much fun camping out on the ice.

All of the scouts that camped out got a special patch. My favorite thing about the campout was when they turned out the lights.  It was really dark!  I had a lot of fun and can’t wait to go to another hockey game.  I will definitely do the “Campout on Ice” again next year.  It was so cool!
