Son of The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross

In school this year I learned about the American Red Cross.  Clara Barton started the American Red Cross in 1881.  The Red Cross helps people who have had disasters.  The Red Cross collects blood for patients in hospitals.  The Red Cross also sends messages to people in the military from their families at home.  The Red Cross teaches things like swimming lessons, CPR and first aid.

I learned about the Red Cross a long time before I went to school.  My Mom is the Director of our Red Cross in Opelika.  Since I was very little, I have done things for the Red Cross with my Mom.  The Red Cross uses a lot of volunteers.  Volunteers are people who work for free, just to help people.  Mom says there would be no Red Cross without volunteers.

My Mom came to my school and talked to us about her work.  She brought a big picture of Clara Barton and some special disaster activity books for us.  I am proud of my Mom.  She works hard and if there is a bad storm she can’t stay home with me and Dad because she has to open shelters for people who don’t have anywhere to go.  I wish sometimes that she didn’t have to do that, but most of the time I am really glad she helps people.  I don’t know what job I will get when I grow up, but I will always volunteer.

Look What You Missed At The Yard Sale!

2 year-old, Anna Frances wears her newly acquired goods from last Saturday’s NIE yard sale.

Her vintage pillow case dress was $25.
Her child size cowboy hat was $4.
Her miniature china baby doll was $1.
Her pink beads were $1.

If Anna Frances had not purchased the dress for $25, how many more cowboy hats could she have purchased?
