Save The Frogs!

By Hagan Marlin, 1st grade
Lee Scott Academy

Many frogs are becoming endangered.  Not just frogs, but all amphibians!  There are a lot of things that are endangering them, like a disease that is being spread by a fungus, polluted water and losing their habitats.

Over 100 amphibian species have, possibly, become extinct in the past 25 years.  Normally,
we only lose 1 species
in 250 years to extinction!

Besides being really fun, frogs are important to our environment and lives.  They eat a lot of bugs and even help scientists make medicines.

There are many ways to help save the frogs and other amphibians.  Here are some of the ways that I am helping:

1.    Learn about amphibians and teach other people about them too.
2.    Recycle
3.    Don’t pollute the environment
4.    Don’t use pesticides that can hurt them
5.    Use rechargeable batteries and recycle old batteries
6.    Make a frog friendly environment in your yard by giving them fresh water and lots of places to hide
7.    Donate money to a group that helps save amphibians, like Amphibian Ark.

A Student’s Life

By Tiara Nelms, 7th Grade, Opelika Middle School

School…a pass time or an advantage in the world? If you haven’t been in school lately, then maybe you have forgotten what it is like. Here is a quick refresher course!

School has its up’s and its down’s. You can get an awesome education. But sometimes it can be hard. Some students and parents stress about grades. If a student is rewarded for good grades, then grades actually have a good side to them!

In school friends can be confusing. There are two types of friends in school…Fakes and real friends. Real friends know how to stick together no matter what happens. Real friends will keep your secrets. Fakes will never help you out in a jam. Fakes will tell your secrets to every person they can. The only good thing about Fakes is that they help you to discover who your real friends are.

Being in school is tough at times. Outcasts or loners are usually judged as “freaks” and “weird”. Some popular kids will pick on and walk all over the outcasts. Yet even if you are being picked on, you can learn a valuable lesson…independence and character.

You may think, “Come on, Tiara, you’re just going to school!” Well do you know what really goes on and what happens in school? Pay close attention the next time you talk to a student. We need the support and guidance from those who love us. Your job may be tough and stressful, but don’t forget that we also face stress too.
