Alabama’s players may not know the entire history of the Crimson Tide at Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium, but senior Alonzo Gee knew enough that when tonight’s road trip to Nashville came up, he shook his head and said, “Wow.”

The Crimson Tide’s next opportunity to reverse its road woes comes today at 6 p.m. on ESPN2. Alabama is trying to snap a 15-game road losing streak in the SEC. It hasn’t defeated Vanderbilt on the road since 1990, a nine-game skid.

“It’s tough playing at Vanderbilt,” Gee said. “I don’t know, it’s something about that gym. We’ve just got to be solid over there, make shots and just play defense.”

Freshman forward JaMychal Green hasn’t faced the Commodores or their odd court, with the benches on the baselines. But he’s more than familiar with the team’s frustration on the road.

“I don’t think we won a road game last year,” Green said. “So that’s our goal, to win a couple road games and get a winning streak started.”

But what will it take to get that done?

“Confidence,” Green said after a long pause. “Play together as a team, just go out there and play hard.”

Both teams are coming off victories. Alabama (13-8 overall, 3-4 SEC) beat Georgia last Saturday. Vanderbilt (13-8, 2-5 SEC) snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory at Auburn.

A.J. Ogilvy leads Vandy in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Gee paces the Tide in both categories with 14.4 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Jeffery Taylor is second in both categories with 12.7 and 6.5 for Vanderbilt.

Senario Hillman averages 13.1 points per game for Alabama.

Green, however, continues to improve. The freshman has averaged 17.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in the past three games.

The Commodores have a pair of 3-point specialists in Jermaine Beal and Brad Tinsley.

“They had a great win over the weekend at Auburn,” Alabama interim coach Philip Pearson said. “Jermaine Beal is a player for them who shoots the ball extremely well, 7-of-8 from the three-point line. Obviously he and Ogilvy, who has been there now for two years, are two big concerns for us.”

It is the first of two road games this week for Alabama. On Sunday, the Crimson Tide plays at LSU. Alabama won the first meeting.

“It looks like a big week with two big road games, and you feel great if you’re able to get one win or two wins,” Pearson said. “We’re looking forward to it, but at the same time you try to keep your team on a little bit of an even-keel when you’re playing 16 games. You don’t want to necessarily build up this game any more than the next one or the game you just played, so we’ll just get ready.”
