Auburn’s Casey McElroy is in the midst of a 15-game hitting streak and leads the Tigers with a .422 batting average on the season.
Not many players in the SEC are seeing the ball better than Auburn’s Casey McElroy right now.
McElroy, a junior from Orlando, Fla., is in the midst of a 15-game hitting streak and batted .615 (8-for-13) with two home runs and six RBI against then-
No. 9 Arkansas last weekend, helping the Tigers win a home series against the Razorbacks for the first time since 2005.
The Auburn shortstop’s weekend performance earned him player of the week honors from the SEC on Monday.
McElroy is batting .468 (29-for-62) with four home runs and 18 RBI during his hit streak.
On the year, McElroy leads the Tigers with a .422 average, four home runs, 20 RBI, a .663 slugging percentage, a .473 on-base percentage and is tied
for the team lead with eight doubles, along with Creede Simpson and Kevin Patterson.
McElroy ranks second in the SEC in hits (35) and home runs, fourth in batting average, fifth in slugging and doubles, sixth in runs scored (20) and eighth in on-base percentage and RBI.
This is the Tigers’ second weekly SEC honor this season, after Derek Varnadore won pitcher of the week after striking out 13 Radford batters in a complete-game, shutout win Feb. 27.
Auburn moved from 24th to 21st in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll and from unranked to No. 20 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll after its series win over Arkansas.
The Tigers will travel to Jacksonville State tonight for a 6:30 p.m. game.
