As expected, Hunter Morris’ career at Auburn is over.

Morris inked a contract earlier this week with the Milwaukee Brewers, who drafted him in the fourth round of last week’s Major League Baseball Draft. Morris, who will report to the Brewers’ lower-A affiliate, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, received a $218,700 signing bonus, according to Baseball America.

Morris, who was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s first-team All-America team Wednesday, led the SEC in home runs (23), RBI (76), slugging (.743) and total bases (202) while helping Auburn win the SEC Western Division championship for the first time since 1995. His totals for home runs and total bases marked the most in school history, and his 105 hits were the third most by an Auburn player during a single season.

In three years, Morris hit 46 career home runs and had a .628 slugging percentage, both fifth all-time. His 93 extra-base hits is good enough for seventh all-time.

Morris, who was named the SEC’s Player of the Year and a Second-Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball, is Auburn’s first position player to earn All-America honors since Todd Faulkner and Gabe Gross did in 2000.

Morris was one of a record 11 Auburn players drafted last week. He and senior catcher Ryan Jenkins (Kansas City Royals) are the only two who have signed contracts with their respective clubs. The deadline to sign is Aug. 16.

Outfielder Brian Fletcher, who was drafted by the Royals in the 18th round, was named to the second-team All-America team. He finished second to Morris on the team in doubles (17), home runs (22), RBI (75) and runs scored (62) while hitting .357 with a .694 slugging percentage.

Fletcher has yet to sign, but his 49 career home runs are tied for third all-time, his 98 career extra-base hits are fifth and his 171 career RBI and 46 career multi-RBI games are both eighth.

Designated hitter Kevin Patterson (23rd round, Tampa Bay Rays) is one of five Auburn players currently playing in the Cape Cod League. It’s unknown whether he will return for his senior season.
