The Auburn baseball team begins its season next week.
Outfielder Trent Mummey, however, will have to wait even longer to start his junior campaign.
Mummey, a 2009 Gold Glove Award winner and a SEC All-Defensive Team selection, will miss the start of the season with a severely sprained right ankle, Auburn University announced in a release Tuesday afternoon.
Mummy injured his ankle during practice this past weekend. No timetable is set for his return, according the release.
Mummey has a .296 career batting average, making 103 starts in center field. Last season, he hit a career-high 15 home runs and drove in 42 RBI, hitting primarily in the leadoff spot.
Mummey also led the team in stolen bases in each of the past two seasons with 18 as a freshman and 17 last year.
Auburn opens the 2010 season Feb. 19 at home against Southeast Missouri State at 3 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
