After taking two of three from Tennessee this weekend at Plainsman Park, the Auburn baseball team is ready to wrap up its 2010 home schedule at 6:30 p.m. today against Jacksonville State.
It’s an important momentum game for Auburn, as the SEC West-leading Tigers have a chance to win the division in its final conference series of the season at Ole Miss beginning Thursday.
The No. 16 Tigers (35-17 overall) have already clinched their first berth in the SEC Tournament since 2003, and are now looking for more.
But first, they’ve got to sharpen up against Jacksonville State (26-23).
The Tigers will start freshman right-hander Slade Smith (2-0, 5.53 ERA), while the Gamecocks will counter with senior righty Bill Henke
(3-1, 6.17).
Auburn’s Trent Mummey comes in leading the Tigers after a red-hot weekend that saw the junior outfielder go 7-for-14 with four home runs and 12 RBI against the Volunteers.
In just two games, Mummey was 6-for-10 with all four dingers and 12 RBI.
Auburn and Jacksonville State have not met on the diamond since the 1994 season, and Auburn holds a 15-12 advantage in the series.
The game is “Two for Tuesday,” where fans can buy one ticket and get one free.
