The green and red on the radar made it clear Game 2 of the Auburn-Alabama series at Plainsman Park would not be finished Friday night.

The game was called with two outs in the top of the fourth inning with Auburn leading 3-1. Alabama’s Taylor Dugas is at first base for the Tide.

After nearly a two-hour delay, which began at 7:09 p.m., the decision to postpone the game was made. It will resume at 11 a.m. today.

Game 3 is scheduled for 3 p.m., and will be televised on FOX Sports South (Channel 33 in Lee County). Because of television rights, if Game 2 is not complete by 2 p.m., that game will be halted and the field cleared to set up for the regularly scheduled TV game, which will begin at 3 p.m. If Game 2 is not complete by the 2 p.m. cutoff, it will resume after Game 3.

There’s one more catch. Since there will be two games today — and today is considered a Sunday by the SEC — Game 3 will be only seven innings, per conference rules.

Presumably, Game 2 should be finished before the 2 p.m. deadline. If not, it will be just one more head-scratching scenario in SEC baseball.

Friday night, Auburn jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Ben Jones’ single to left field, which scored Trent Mummey, who was hit by a pitch and then stole second.

Alabama tied it up in the top of the third when Clay Jones knocked in Jake Smith with an RBI double off the left-center field wall.

Auburn retook the lead in the bottom of the third scoring two runs.

Brian Fletcher started it with a two-out single to left, followed by a single by first baseman Hunter Morris. Catcher Tony Caldwell plated Fletcher with a single to right. Morris then scored on an infield hit by shortstop Casey McElroy.

Auburn has six hits so far in the game off of Alabama starter Del Howell, who has one strikeout and one walk.

Alabama has seven hits off of Tigers starter Grant Dayton, who also has four strikeouts.
