Auburn sophomore gymnast Allyson Sandusky has been named SEC Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Sandusky receives the honor for the first time in her career. Sandusky is coming off her best meet of the season against No. 8 Georgia, as she eclipsed the 9.8 mark in all-three of her events. On vault, she tied for the meet title with a 9.85, a mark that she has hit in her past three meet. On bars, she scored a 9.8 and then concluded her night with a 9.825 on beam.

“It is great for Allyson to be recognized by the conference after playing such a major part in our big win over Georgia,” said head coach Jeff Thompson. “She is a great competitor, as well as a great kid.”

Sandusky leads the Tigers in three events, ranking in the top-50 nationally in the vault, on bars, and on beam. The Brookeville, Md., native will enter the
Arkansas meet ranked 48th on vault (9.812), tied for 22nd on bars (9.831) and tied for 46th on beam (9.769).

This is the first SEC Gymnast of the Week honor for Auburn this season, and the first of Sandusky’s career. Sandusky previously won SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week honors on Feb. 3 of last season. A.J. Mills was the last Tiger to win SEC Gymnast of the Week, taking home the honor Feb. 17, 2009.

No. 16 Auburn returns to action Friday as the Tigers travel to Arkansas.
