AU ROUNDUP: Fradejas inks free-agent deal With Royals

Justin Fradejas signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals on Monday morning and was immediately assigned to the Idaho Falls Chukars, the Rookie League affiliate of the Kansas City organization.

A two-year starter at Auburn after transferring from Northwest Florida State Community College where he was an All-Panhandle Conference selection, Fradejas hit .336 in 112 games at Auburn, collecting 19 doubles, two triples and six home runs, driving in 53 RBIs and scoring 92 runs.

This past year he hit .316 with 11 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 20 RBIs, scoring 40 runs. Fradejas was 13-for-21 in bunt base hits attempts to go along with eight sac bunts, along with a team-leading five outfield assists in 2011.

Fradejas is the third former Auburn player to join the Kansas City organization in the last year, joining Brian Fletcher and Ryan Jenkins, both of whom were drafted in 2010 by the Royals.

Barber, Johnson shine in amateur competition

The Tigers had five individuals competing in amateur events over the weekend, with rising junior Blayne Barber and incoming freshman Michael Johnson earning a pair of top-five finishes.

Barber carded a final-round 64 in the Northeast Amateur in Rumsford, R.I., at Wannamoisett Country Club, shooting 11-under through four rounds. Michael Hebert also went low on the final day, shooting a 67 to tie for seventh at 7-under.

Dominic Bozzelli earned his third consecutive top-25 this summer. Bozzelli also threw down a final round 64 to surge up the leader board, tying for 22nd at even par.

Johnson tied for fourth at the Greystone Invitational, shooting 1-over through four rounds of play. Johnson carded birds on 11, 13 and 18 to close the day. Rising junior Jackson Beindorf tied for 34th at the Greystone, shooting 11-over for the weekend.

EQUESTRIAN
Announces 2011-2012 schedule

The defending equestrian national champion Auburn Tigers released their 2011-12 schedule featuring six home meets, including three home meets in October, head coach Greg Williams announced Monday.

Auburn will open the season at UT-Martin on Sept. 25 and will then return for its home opener against TCU on Oct. 1 followed by home meets against South Carolina on Oct. 8 and Kansas State on Oct. 21.

This fall, the Tigers will travel to face South Dakota State and Delaware State, and closes out their fall schedule at conference rival Georgia on Nov. 11.

During the spring season, Auburn will compete against Oklahoma State, Georgia and South Carolina. The last regular season matchup will take place March 9-10 when the Tigers travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to take on New Mexico State and Fresno State.

The team will compete in post-season action at the Southern Equestrian Championships on March 30 and 31, followed by the Varsity Equestrian National Championship in Waco, Texas, on April 19-21.
