The No. 16 Auburn gymnastics team (1-3, 1-2) take to the road for the second time this season, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks (2-2, 1-2) at 7 p.m. today.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming trip,” said head coach Jeff Thompson. “We always enjoy going to Fayetteville and anticipate a close and exciting meet on Friday.”

Friday’s matchup marks the 14th all-time meeting between the Razorbacks and Tigers, with Arkansas holding a slim 7-6 lead. Auburn swept last season’s series, first defeating Arkansas 196.175-195.400 on Feb. 13, 2009 from Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.

Track heads to Penn State
The Auburn men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in their third indoor meet of the 2010 season when the Tigers participate in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup hosted by Penn State today and Saturday.

Today, the pentathlon starts at 11 a.m., while running events start at 3:30 p.m. and field events at 4:30 p.m. Saturday’s competition starts at 10 a.m. with field events and running events getting underway at 10:30.

The Auburn women enter the meet at No. 17 in the national rankings, while the men are ranked 20th. Host Penn State will be a formidable opponent, as the Nittany Lions have the No. 8-ranked women’s team and the No. 14 men’s team. Other teams from around the country will also be in attendance.

“Indoors we have such a short season that we really want to just keep getting better and faster and get more people qualified for the national championships,” said head coach Ralph Spry. “In our second meet of the year last week at Clemson, things went very well, and the facility at Penn
State is really fast, so we’re looking to get a lot more people qualified this weekend, and solidify the position of those who are already qualified.”

Baseball names team captains
With the first pitch of the 2010 baseball season just 15 days away, Auburn baseball head coach John Pawlowski has announced that the team has voted four players to be captains this season. The four captains are seniors Austin Hubbard and Ryan Jenkins, junior Kevin Patterson and sophomore Jon Luke Jacobs.

“I am really proud of these four student-athletes chosen by their teammates,” Pawlowski said.
