BIRMINGHAM — The No. 25 Auburn men’s golf team carded a 25-over 299-302—601 and is in ninth place after the first two rounds of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Golf Club.
Freshman Kyle Kopsick currently leads all Tigers (73-75—148) in a tie for 15th, individually. Senior Glenn Northcutt (74-77—151) is tied for 25th, freshman John Stembridge (75-77—152) is tied for 31st, and redshirt freshman Cory Gilmer (78-75—153) and senior Cole Moreland (77-76-153) are tied for 37th.
The Tigers were in fourth after the morning round with an 11-over 299 but lost ground after putting up a 14-over afternoon total of 302.
“The afternoon round was tough,” said head coach Mike Griffin. “A lot of the guys haven’t played 36 holes in one day for a while. Kyle (Kopsick) hit a lot of good shots today. Shoal Creek is a great course. There are some holes you really have to grind through.”
