One of the most competitive dual meets of the 2011-12 swimming & diving season is set for Friday, as No. 5/6 Auburn welcomes No. 9/1 Georgia to the James E. Martin Aquatics Center. The meet is set for a 3 p.m. start with diving events getting underway at 2:15.
Friday’s meet is the “All Auburn, All Orange” promotion for swimming & diving, and fans are encouraged to wear orange.
Students will receive extra Spirit and Ignited points for attendance, and the first 150 fans will receive an Auburn drawstring backpack. Admission is free to all Auburn home swimming & diving events.
Auburn’s men (2-0, 1-0 SEC) enter the meet ranked No. 5 in the country in the season’s initial CSCAA national poll. The Tigers powered through their first two meets of the season, winning 15 of 16 events in a victory over LSU and posting the top time or score in all 13 events against Penn State last week.
On the women’s side, No. 6-ranked Auburn (3-0, 1-0 SEC) will look to keep alive a nine-meet winning streak that dates back to the 2009-10 season.
Live video and live results will be available through AuburnTigers.com. Fans can also follow @AuburnSwimming on Twitter for updates throughout the meet.
Barbee holds Barbee-Q event for students
Auburn head basketball coach Tony Barbee hosted more than 700 students at his Barbee-Q event in the Auburn Arena on Thursday. The students were treated to a barbecue dinner and a patented Barbee pep talk on the upcoming season.
Barbee first met for roughly 30 minutes with 20 student leaders that consisted of members of SGA, fraternities, sororities and non-Greek organizations prior to the start of the event.
It included an informative session in which Barbee asked the group ways that he could improve the Auburn students’ experience at games and in turn, the enthusiastic leaders inquired about what they can do to help both the team and the program as well.
Barbee reminded students who attend SEC games that they will have a chance to win a giftcard for textbooks from Anders Bookstore. He also informed the crowd that at every home game, one lucky student will have a chance to capitalize on making a series of shots for a prize of $5,000 presented by Golden Flake.
In a change from prior seasons, Barbee announced to the students that the team will now be entering through the student-side entrance to start a new “Tiger Walk”-type tradition for basketball. He also announced that the students will get a chance to vote on a nickname for the student section in hopes that the Auburn student body will develop its own traditions as well.
