Rising senior Will McCurdy placed second at the Spirit of America Championship, shooting 6-under and forcing a playoff with eventual champion Hunter Hawkins Sunday at the Burningtree Country Club in Decatur.

Incoming freshman Michael Johnson held the lead at five-under after the opening two rounds, going on to take fourth at 4-under par.

The tournament, which also pairs collegiate teammates to rank their collective scores against the field, saw McCurdy and Johnson take the team championship at 10-under.  Mississippi State placed second at 4-over followed by Florida State at 5-over.

Rising junior Michael Hebert tied for 12th at the Dogwood Invitational, held Wednesday through Saturday, at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta. The Orlando, Fla., native fired a final round 64 to propel him 22 spots from 34th.

On the professional level, former Tigers John Huston and Lee Williams each earned top-10 showings on their respective tours.  Huston tied for 10th on the Champions Tour Montreal Championship following a win the previous week at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. Huston currently ranks 23rd in the Charles Schwab Cup.

Williams also earned a top-10 on the Hooters Tour, placing fifth at the Victoria Texas Open. The result was his seventh top-10 in 12 Hooters Tour events this season.
