AU ROUNDUP: Softball blanks Georgia State

Myesha Finney’s three-run home run capped a six-run outburst in the fourth inning as the Auburn softball team defeated Georgia State, 6-0, Wednesday night at Jane B. Moore Field.

The Tigers improved to 6-1 with the win, while Georgia State dropped to 0-3. Auburn returns to action this weekend with the Tiger Invitational. Auburn plays Eastern Kentucky at 12:30 p.m. Friday and follows that with a 3 p.m. game against Missouri-Kansas City.

Freshman pitcher Jenee Loree improved to 4-0 after going four innings and allowing just three hits. Loree fanned four and walked two in her fourth start of the season.

Tatiana Fernandez began the fourth inning with a double to left and was lifted for pinch-runner Cassie Trosclair. After two quick outs, Gore walked three straight batters to force home a run and give Auburn a 1-0 edge.

With the bases loaded, Katie Colton singled to left to drive in Alexa Martinez and Taryn Gray and push the Auburn lead to 3-0. With two aboard, Finney hit her second home run of the season, this one to center, to give Auburn a 6-0 advantage.

Baseball’s Morris grabs another honor
Hunter Morris picked up another preseason accolade on Wednesday when Baseball America tabbed the sophomore the Preseason All-SEC designated hitter.

The reigning Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and an All-SEC Second Team selection last season, Morris led Auburn with a .351 batting average last season, belting 11 home runs and driving in 49 runs.

Mazzaferro finishes USA selection camp
COLUMBUS, OHIO — Auburn junior Dan Mazzaferro completed his third and fourth dive lists Wednesday at the 2009 USA Diving Selection Camp in Columbus, Ohio. The 2008 SEC Champion recorded scores of 388.30 and 376.45 off the platform.

In his second list Tuesday, the Cheshire, Conn., native scored a career-high 445.95.
