Tigers face Vandy, Kentucky
The Auburn women’s tennis team (4-11, 0-4 SEC) will face off against No. 14 Vanderbilt and Kentucky this weekend. Today’s match against Vanderbilt is at home while Sunday’s match against the Wildcats is in Lexington, Ky.
“This is a big weekend for us,“ said Auburn head coach Tim Gray . “We need to step up and let our actions do the talking. We need our sophomores to start making some breakthroughs.“
The No. 14 Commodores are 8-4, 2-3 SEC on the season. Auburn has a three-match winning streak against Vanderbilt and will look to extend the run. Vanderbilt has three singles players nationally ranked in No. 69 Chelsea Preeg, No. 91 Alexa Leatu and No. 97 Racheal Dillon. The Commodores also have three doubles teams that are nationally ranked in No. 56 Preeg/Lauren Mira, No. 63 Leatu/Dillon and No. 67 Mira/Erica Robertson.
The Wildcats (3-13, 1-4 SEC) are on a five-match losing streak, most recently losing to Texas Tech, 4-2, in Lubbock, Texas. Kentucky will be fielding one ranked player in No. 112 Megan Broderick.
Auburn, meanwhile, ended a seven-match losing streak last weekend with two wins on Saturday. The Tigers hosted a double-header against No. 68 Boston University and Troy University. In the first match of the day, Auburn upset BU, 4-3. In the second match of the double-header the Tigers defeated Troy, 6-1.
