The Auburn softball team will square off against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks today at Jane B. Moore Field. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. 

The Tigers enter the midweek game with a 7-3 record and are coming off a perfect showing at their home tournament, the Tiger Invitational, last weekend. Auburn defeated Ohio University, Nebraska, Central Michigan and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

“Obviously, I’m very happy that we won all four games over the weekend,” Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. “But now we have to forget that and focus in on Jacksonville State. They are a good team that won 43 games and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional last year.

“They are off to a good start and we need to be ready to play.”

Jacksonville State enters the game with a 2-1 record having defeated Wright State and Indiana. The Gamecocks’ only loss of the season came to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Auburn senior pitcher Anna Thompson leads the Tigers and has the third-lowest ERA in the Southeastern Conference with a 0.78 mark.

Thompson has not allowed an earned run in her last 21 innings of work.

The last earned run allowed by the Huntsville native came in the first inning against Texas Tech on Feb. 13. Thompson has allowed just four hits in her last 18 innings of work and has fanned 30 hitters in that span.

Offensively, sophomore Amber Harrison leads the Tigers with a .370 batting average and a .438 on-base percentage. Harrison has at least one hit in eight of 10 games this season and has accounted for a run with either an RBI or a run scored in the last eight games.

The Tigers have hit a team record three grand slams this season and are hitting .344 with runners in scoring position.

Women’s golf finishes 8th
TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 3 Auburn women’s golf team earned an eighth-place finish at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational after carding a 13-over par 297 in the final round.

The Tigers combined for a tournament-total 37-over par 605 to land the team in eighth place after starting the day in 11th.

Junior Cydney Clanton led the Tigers with a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to finish in a tie for fourth with a 36-hole total of 2-over-par 144.
