AU ROUNDUP: Swimming & diving hosts Georgia

The Auburn swimming and diving team welcomes Georgia to the James E. Martin Aquatic Center for a big Southeastern Conference meet today.

Diving is set to start at 3 p.m., while swimming starts up at 4 p.m.

“This will be our toughest test so far this season,” head coach Brett Hawke said. “Georgia has a fantastic program with a great history of performing at the highest level. They are coached well and will be ready to race.”

The men enter the meet as the fifth-ranked team in the country, while the women sit at No. 7.

The Tigers combined for 16 event wins and 12 NCAA Provision “B” cut times Nov. 12 as they swept in-state rival Alabama in front of 1,156 fans at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.

The women topped the Crimson Tide, 134-107, while the men defeated Alabama, 142-101.

The Georgia women’s swimming and diving team enters competition as the top-ranked team in the nation according to the College Swim Coaches Association of America. The men come to Auburn as the seventh-ranked team.

The Lady Bulldogs are led by a handful of tough swimmers including Allison Schmitt, who holds SEC-best timesin the 100, 200 and 500 free.

Troyden Prinsloo leads the men with two top times in the 500 and 1000 free.

Senior Gideon Louw and freshman Katie Gardocki each picked up their first career SEC weekly honor after their performances in last week’s win over Alabama.

Following today’s competition, the diving team heads to Atlanta for the three-day Georgia Tech Diving Invitational.

The Tigers travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Invitational. Auburn will take part in the three-day invite Dec. 3-5.

Volleyball takes final road trips of regular season
The Auburn volleyball team closes out its SEC road schedule at Arkansas and Ole Miss this weekend.

The Tigers face the Razorbacks tonight at 7 p.m. and travel to take on the Rebels at 1 p.m. Sunday. The match against Ole Miss will be televised by CSS.

“We’re looking forward to the weekend and plan on playing tough on the road,” Wade Benson, head volleyball coach, said. “We’re prepared mentally and are excited to have something to play for. With the potential to finish second in the SEC West and a possible at-large bid to the NCAA tournament is a big step for this program.”

Auburn enters the weekend with a 15-13 overall record and are 7-10 in conference play.

The Razorbacks stand 12-16 overall and are in third in the SEC West with a 6-11 conference mark.

The Rebels are currently 8-19 overall and have a 2-15 record in the SEC.

Auburn closes out the regular season with a 4 p.m. match with Georgia on Wednesday at the Student Activities Center. Admission is free.
