AU ROUNDUP: Tiger Prowl heads to four cities

Tigers Unlimited, Auburn Athletics’ fundraising arm, is bringing Tiger Prowl fundraising events to four locations throughout Alabama today-Thursday for meet and greets with Auburn football coaches and men’s and women’s basketball coaches.

The events are free.

Tiger Prowl will be at Lipscomb Field in Mobile today from 6-8 p.m. The TUF functions will also be in Montgomery on Tuesday, Birmingham on Wednesday and Huntsville on Thursday. All four events will run from 6-8 p.m.

Tuesday’s Tiger Prowl will be located outside the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Montgomery at the Exchange Patio adjacent to Tallapoosa St., while Wednesday’s location in Birmingham is to be determined. The Huntsville Tiger Prowl on Thursday will be at the Madison Commons Lot on Hughes Road in Madison.

The Auburn Alumni Association’s ongoing Tiger Trek, an Auburn Club tour featuring head football coach Gene Chizik and Aubie will visit Tampa, Fla., on Monday and Ft. Walton Beach/Destin on Tuesday. There are nine Tiger Trek functions throughout the Southeast this spring and summer, concluding July 23 in Birmingham.

Softball falls in final game at Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss.  — Ole Miss rallied from a three-run deficit to claim a 6-5 victory over the Auburn softball team and prevent a series sweep by the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Auburn dropped to 25-23 overall and 8-17 in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss improved to 24-23 overall and 6-15 in the SEC.

The Tigers return to action with a home game Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville State.

Auburn reliever Jenee Loree took the loss against Ole Miss to fall to 3-5 on the season. Loree allowed one run on one hit with one walk in 2/3 innings of work.

Anna Thompson started and went just one complete inning before being lifted after hitting the first batter of the second inning.

Thompson returned to record the last out of the sixth inning. For the game, Thompson threw 1 1/3 innings, allowed one run with two walks, no hits and one strikeout. Angel Bunner threw four innings in relief of Thompson, allowing four runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Becky Nye improved to 7-10 after earning the win in relief for the Rebels. Nye threw two innings and allowed one run on one hit.

Both teams scored a run in the second, with Krista Clyde driving in Lauren Guzman with a fielder’s choice and Ole Miss’ Amber Tramp scoring on an infield ground ball to second by Aly Presswood.

The Tigers took a 4-1 lead, scoring a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Kelsey Cartwright forced a run home with a bases loaded walk that plated Katie Colton in the third inning.

Caitlin Stangl scored when Amber Harrison’s ground ball was booted by third baseman Cali Overbeck in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Kelley Smiley scored on a single to center by Clyde to give the Tigers a 4-1 edge.

Ole Miss tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Tramp cranked a two-out, three-run home run off Bunner.

Kyndall White quickly broke the tie when she launched her 17th career home run. White’s solo shot led off the sixth inning, gave Auburn a 5-4 lead and moved White into sole possession of 10th place in the Auburn career home run record books.

The Rebels rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Corrine Doornberg plated Ashley Dowdy with a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game. Lauren Grill gave the Rebels the winning run with an RBI single
that scored Courtnie Ghinaudo.

Nye pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Rebels to preserve the victory and prevent the series sweep.
