Katy Frierson was named a Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz while she and teammate Allison Whitworth were selected to the All-Southeast Second Team, it was announced on Wednesday.

Frierson, from Birmingham, becomes the sixth Auburn soccer player to be named a Freshman All-American by the organization, joining Kellie Evans (2000), Megan Rivera (2001), Ashley Eason (2002), Ronda Brooks (2003) and Caitlin King (2006).

A midfielder, Frierson led Auburn in goals (nine) and points (25) as a true freshman, solidifying her spot in the starting lineup in the season’s sixth match of the season. Once the team entered the SEC season, she was on fire, scoring all nine of her goals and collecting five of her seven assists in conference play.

Whitworth, a goalkeeper from Birmingham, had a season to remember in her final season at Auburn, establishing a school record for saves in a season (132), giving her an Auburn-best 356 stops in her career. She also posted eight shutouts for the second straight season to give her 22 career shutouts and posted a 1.02 GAA as a senior to earn First Team All-SEC accolades after being tabbed a Second Team All-SEC selection as a junior. She was recently drafted by the FC Gold Pride in the WPS Draft.

The choice of Frierson and Whitworth to the All-Region second team marks the 17th and 18th selections of Auburn players to the all-region squads.
