BIRMINGHAM — For the first time in her career, Auburn senior KeKe Carrier was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Carrier earned the award after leading Auburn last week with 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

A native of Lake Charles, La., Carrier is the first Auburn player to earn one of the SEC’s weekly honors since DeWanna Bonner was named SEC Player of the Week on Jan. 26, 2009.

Nearly averaging a double-double on the week, Carrier led Auburn to a 1-1 record that included a double-overtime road loss to Florida and an overtime upset at 11th-ranked LSU.

Against the Gators, she tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Carrier is now tied for the lead in the SEC with five double-doubles on the season. She scored 13 second-half points at Florida, leading the Tiger charge that overcame a 20-point deficit to force overtime. She also scored 9 of Auburn’s 16 overtime points.

Carrier again had a big second-half at LSU, scoring 9 of her 17 points in the second half to lead the Tigers to an overtime win. The first rebound Carrier pulled down in the LSU game marked the 500th of her career. She went on to finish the game with 505 career rebounds, making her one of only 22 Auburn players ever to reach the 500-rebound plateau.

Auburn (10-6, 1-2 SEC) will return to action at 6 p.m. Thursday as the Tigers host in-state rival Alabama (8-8, 0-3 SEC) at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
