The Auburn women’s basketball team received public recognition by the NCAA for their Academic Performance Rate (APR) score for 2009-10, after posting a multi-year score in the top-10 percentile of all squads in their sport, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
The Auburn women were one of 20 SEC sport programs to be recognized by the NCAA.
“We are very proud of the women’s basketball team for receiving public recognition from the NCAA,” said Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs. “Coach Fortner and her program are to be commended for their commitment, hard work and dedication towards one of our five goals, which is to successfully graduate our student-athletes.”
It marks the first time the women’s basketball team has received the recognition for being in the top-10 percent among women’s Division I basketball programs.
“I’m extremely proud of our team for their work in the classroom,” Fortner said. “This was a team effort, and I’m very appreciative of my staff, the
Student-Athlete Development Center staff and tutors, and our academic counselor Mary Ann Taylor-Sims. We’ll continue to encourage our student-athletes to excel in the classroom, on the court and in the community.”
