BIRMINGHAM — For her play in last week’s three wins, Auburn senior point guard Whitney Boddie was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Boddie is the second Auburn player to receive the honor this season and earns it for the second time in her career.
Boddie earns SEC Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career, after also picking it up on Nov. 25, 2007.
She follows fellow senior DeWanna Bonner, who was named SEC Player of the Week on Nov. 17, following the first week of play this season.
It marks the first time since 2005 for Auburn players to earn the conference’s weekly honor twice in the same season.
The Florence native is coming off a big week in which she tallied her first career triple-double and helped the Tigers to three victories, improving Auburn to 10-0 on the season.
Boddie put up 13 points, 12 assists and 10
rebounds against Sam Houston State, recording the first triple-double of her career and just the second ever at Auburn, by either the men’s or women’s teams.
She averaged a double-double on the week with 10.7 points and 10.3 assists per game while also chipping in 7.0 rebounds per game. Boddie shot a blazing 61.9 percent from the field, knocking down 13-of-21 attempts, and picked up five steals in the three games. She also took care of the ball, committing only seven turnovers on the week while tallying 31 assists.
The 13th-ranked Tigers will not play again until Dec. 19 because of final exams. Auburn’s next game will be a 6:30 p.m. tipoff against George Washington on Friday, Dec. 19.
