Former AU swimmers medal in California

Former Tigers Tyler McGill and Mark Gangloff each won silver medals in their respective races Friday night at the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships held in Irvine, Calif., at the William Woollet Jr. Aquatics Center.

McGill, who recently finished his senior season at Auburn, reached the finals of the 100 fly after clocking the second-fastest time of 51.69 in the preliminary session. McGill went on to take second during the evening’s final race, finishing in 51.85 behind world-record holder and teammate Michael Phelps.

Gangloff clocked the meet’s second-fastest time in the 50 breast, taking the silver in the event with a time of 27.52. The medal is Gangloff’s second of the meet as he took third in the 100 breast
Thursday evening.

Also competing Friday was Auburn junior Micah Lawrence. The Pflugerville, Texas, product finished 18th overall in the 50 breast with a time of 32.07.

The Pac Pacific Championships conclude Saturday with prelims and finals of the women’s and men’s 200 IM, 50 free and 200 breast.
