It’s official: WVU game moves

Auburn will take it’s 6-1 record in Thursday night games to Morgantown on Oct. 23 to play West Virginia on ESPN.

Friday, Auburn University made the change official, moving the originally scheduled Sept. 6 game against the Mountaineers to a Thursday night contest in late October.

“This move will give us a great opportunity to receive the national spotlight on ESPN on a Thursday night,” head coach Tommy Tuberville said in a statement released by AU. “We want to make our schedule as competitive as anybody, and playing an outstanding non-conference opponent like West Virginia will do just that.”

Auburn’s last Thursday night game was in 2006 when the Tigers beat South Carolina, 24-17, in Columbia.

The change will result in the Southern Mississippi home game, initially slated for Oct. 18, being moved to Sept. 6 to fill the void left by the West Virginia date change.

AU will then have a bye on Oct. 18. The Tigers remaining bye week will come on Nov. 22.

Auburn will open the season on Aug. 30 at Jordan-Hare Stadium against Louisiana-Monroe. Five of AU’s first seven games at home, including SEC games against LSU (Sept. 20), Tennessee (Sept. 27), Arkansas (Oct. 11) and Georgia (Nov. 15).

The homecoming game will be Nov. 8 against Tennessee-Martin.

Auburn will play four other away games next season: at Mississippi State (Sept. 13), at Vanderbilt (Oct. 4), at Ole Miss (Nov. 1) and at Alabama (Nov. 29).

Women’s tennis faces two matches on weekend
The No. 27 Auburn women’s tennis team (2-1, 0-0 SEC) will travel to Washington, D.C., and College Park, Md., on Feb. 2, and Feb.3, to face Georgetown and Maryland in its first road meets of 2008.

The Tigers take on the Hoyas today at 4:30 p.m. Auburn will face the Terrapins Sunday at 9 a.m.

This weekend will mark Auburn’s first match-up against both Georgetown and Maryland in the program’s history. Georgetown is 1-1 so far this season with a win over Cincinnati, 5-2, and a loss, 7-0, to Syracuse. The Terrapins will begin their season on Feb. 2, versus Dartmouth.

Auburn takes on the Hoyas and the Terrapins after winning a double header at home over Mercer and Alabama A&M. Auburn blanked the Bears and the Bulldogs 7-0.

Auburn will return to the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Feb. 12, to face Georgia State at 3 p.m. All home matches are open to the public and admission is free. Live stats for home matches are available at http://www.auburntigers.com.

Equestrian hosts Texas A&M today
The Auburn equestrian team plays host to Texas A&M today at 1 p.m. Central at the Auburn Equestrian Center. Admission is free.

The Tigers are 5-1 on the season with a dominating win against Delaware State last Saturday while Texas A&M is 5-1 with its only loss coming against Oklahoma State.

“Texas A&M is one of the premiere teams in the country,” said Auburn head coach Greg Williams. “They are very balanced with their Western team winning the national championship last year. Their Hunt Seat team is getting better which makes them a tough
opponent.”
