Tigers back at home, looking for win

Frankie Sullivan’s back, but he’s not back at full speed.

Even though the Auburn junior made his return to the court Wednesday night, less than five months after tearing his ACL, he was limited to only 9 minutes of action.

Still, he was impressed with how the knee held up.

“It felt pretty good actually. It surprised me actually,” said Sullivan, who produced a 4-point play at the end of the first half. “I thought I was going to have a little setback when I was on the court, but I thought I moved pretty well when I was out there.”

The Tigers (3-6) are going to take Sullivan’s return slowly, and he’s not a projected starter for their tilt tonight with 4-6 Presbyterian at 7 p.m. at the Auburn Arena.

Instead, they’ll look to guards Andre Malone and Earnest Ross their scoring.

Malone (18) and Ross (11) were the only two Auburn players in double figures for the Tigers’ 61-49 loss to South Florida on Wednesday, their second in five days to a Big East opponent.

The Blue Hose and Tigers each score around 64 points per game, and Presbyterian has gone up against such big-conference teams as Vanderbilt, Kansas State and Missouri this year.

Forward Al’Lonzo Coleman (14.6), guard Khalid Mutakabbir (12.6) and forward Jake Troyli (10.6) all average double-figure scoring for the Blue Hose.

“They don’t play a lot of people, maybe only six or seven guys, but all of those guys who play can really score the ball, and they play a solid style,” Tigers coach Tony Barbee said. “It is going to be a challenge for us.”

The Tigers are holding a Toys For Tots toy drive prior to the game. Any fan that donates a new unwrapped toy will receive a free ticket to the game. All toys will be donated to Toys for Toys for distribution in the local community. The Toys for Tots drop off point will be at the main arena entrance. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
