Birmingham Zoo
2630 Cahaba Road Birmingham, Alabama 35223 205.879.0409 www.birminghamzoo.com Sea lions, cheetahs and endangered species from six continents represent a small sampling of the wonders that can be found at the Birmingham Zoo. The Zoo houses over 750 animals, a Lorikeet Aviary, and a Children’s Zoo. Daily events include a Giraffe Encounter, Wildlife Show, and Sea Lion Splash Show. The Zoo also offers educational programs and camps for people of all ages. For example, Babes at the Zoo is a class that gives children ages 6 months to 2 years the opportunity to explore the wonders of wildlife in a safe environment. Zoo Keeper for a Day is another exciting program where kids ages 8 to 14 work alongside a zookeeper and learn more about this interesting profession. The Zoo also hosts an overnight ZooSnoozes adventure where groups participate in evening activities at the Zoo and then spend the night — a perfect field trip for Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops. In December, the Zoo comes alive with the Zoo Light Safari, a holiday festival where visitors can enjoy the Zoo in the evening as it is decorated in lights and snow.
